missiongathering is seeking lead pastor (full-time):

About us. Missiongathering exists to be a progressive and inclusive community of Christ followers dedicated to growing in faith, living whole lives, and seeking justice for the good of our world.

Christian. We are a Christian community committed to the belief and practice of the life, death, and Resurrection Of Jesus Christ and the teachings and example of Jesus Christ in every aspect of our lives. Our church like many others is in a Covenant with the Denomination of The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). As Disciples of Christ, we join together to form a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one Body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.

Progressive. We are a Christian community of progressives that take the Christian tradition seriously while embracing science, reason, history, and different perspectives on ultimate truth. We are committed to embracing our doubts, asking questions, and allowing our beliefs to evolve and grow as the wild winds of the Spirit lead us deeper into an encounter with God. We also believe that our faith calls us to action, bringing about justice and equity in our world for everyone.

Inclusive. We are a Christian community that believes that our diversity best reflects God's creativity, so we celebrate and embrace folks of all ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socio-economic statuses, political affiliations, and religious beliefs. We seek to come together every week in humility and love to learn from and support one another’s differences in perspectives, beliefs, and experiences.

Our Core Values. Every aspect of who we aspire to be as a community is guided by the following six core values, rooted in the Christian tradition: JUSTICE – We believe that justice is what love looks like in public. INCLUSIVITY – We believe God has set a place at the table of grace for absolutely everyone. GRACE – We believe in restoration and reconciliation through unconditional forgiveness. COURAGE – We risk the vulnerability of being real with each other and the world. FAITH – We act with the faith that we can make this world look a little more like the Kingdom of Heaven. TRANSFORMATION – We believe in moving towards wholeness in a fragmented society.

Church Operations. Missiongathering currently operates church service every Sunday starting at 10:00 am. But we recognize that a healthy church cannot have the needs of its congregation met during this limited window of time. The pastor will have other duties to attend to outside the hours of operation, including, but not limited to, the study and preparation for Sunday worship and community and congregational outreach, such as collaboration with the Board of Directors, meeting with current or future members, caring for the spiritual needs of the congregation, and charitable relationships.

Whom we Seek. Missiongathering seeks a full-time pastor to fulfill the needs of our small faith community with a desire to replant and grow our congregation, which has a 12-year tradition of Christian progressive leadership in San Diego.

Expected Duties and Responsibilities. The pastor will be expected to preach 4-5 Sundays in a row, taking off the 6th Sunday from preaching yet still being a part of the intentional gathering with a guest speaker. The pastor is also expected to lead on all Holy Holidays, Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, Palm Sunday, Easter Sunday, Pentecost Sunday, and Christmas Eve.

As a part of the ministry to the whole church, the pastor will also be expected to participate in the life of the Pacific Southwest Region and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). This may include participation, where practical, with DOC churches, pastors, and lay workers at local and regional camps, retreats, and assemblies. If not already in Standing, start the process of seeking Standing within the Pacific Southwest Region of The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) within the first six months of hire.
